Cetacean Photography Workshop in the Strait
Orcas, dolphins and great encounters at sea
The Strait of Gibraltar is one of the most fascinating places in Europe to observe cetaceans in their natural habitat. Every summer, the Orcas of the Strait They approach this area following the tuna migrations, offering some of the most spectacular opportunities for observation and photography.
On this photographic journey we will travel to Fee, one of the world's key spots for whale watching, where we'll go out to sea to try and photograph orcas, dolphins and other species in their natural environment.
It will be an experience designed to enjoy the sea, wildlife and photography in one of the most special places in the Mediterranean.
Travel dates
July 17, 18 and 19
The workshop will take place throughout the weekend, with several trips out to sea to maximize the chances of sightings.
Sea excursions
We will perform two boat trips, One on Saturday and another on Sunday, with several hours of sailing each day.
Departures will take place from the port of Tarifa, one of the best places in the world for whale watching.
For this activity we have two Zodiac-type boats, which allows us to work with small groups and enjoy a much more intimate and dynamic experience. This type of vessel also has a significant advantage for photography: we sail very close to the water level, This allows for much more striking and natural images to be obtained.
Species we will be able to observe
During the outings we will try to locate different species of cetaceans that inhabit the Strait of Gibraltar.
Among them are:
- Orcas of the Strait (main objective of the trip)
- Common dolphin
- Striped dolphin
- Bottlenose dolphin
- Common Calderón
The Strait is one of the areas with the greatest marine biodiversity in Europe, so each outing can offer us unique encounters.
Photograph from the sea
Zodiac navigation allows us to position ourselves very close to the surface of the water, which offers spectacular photographic perspectives.
In addition, during the activity we will be able to use GoPro-type action cameras to capture underwater images at specific moments, a different way of documenting encounters with cetaceans.
To protect the equipment during navigation, We will provide waterproof bags, so that the photographic material travels safely even if there are splashes.
Accommodation
During the trip we will be staying in good quality hotels located a short distance from the departure port.
The accommodation was chosen by searching comfort, a good night's sleep, and a good logistical base for trips to sea.

We have two boats, This allows us to divide the group and avoid overcrowding during outings.
